Speculation continues about the women Lisbeth Salander might be modeled on. Here's a pic of Stieg's niece Therese from a Swedish interview. 'It's mostly her stubbornness and her desire to help others that they have in common. But also their looks. Her body is small and her gaze is penetrating. "We could absolutely be friends, Lisbeth Salander and I," says Therese Larsson, the niece of author Stieg Larsson.'

Damn, and I saw a tattoed young woman in a black sleeveless top in the subway today ...
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, I've never asked about your noms de plume, but if I'm ever spinning records in your presence, I'll put on songs by Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf and see what happens. Or else I'll mention Brown v. Board of Education.

You got the Muddy and Wolf right...
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard of the Brown v. Board guy until today, when I did a search to make sure I knew how to spell "Morganfield."

Thanks, David, and you have a wonderful and erudite blog, I'll be back. Wish I could eat some of that stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the picture. I guess she looks very like what I had in my mind's eye when I was reading the books. Not many weeks to go before Part 3 now.
ReplyDeleteStill waiting for the third volume to come out... I haven't come across the real Lisbeth (yet) but she probably resembles the niece (somewhat)... Better not to put a real face to the magic!
ReplyDeleteI think Therese is more of a match to Lisbeth in spirit and attitude rather than looks. I see Lisbeth as much thinner and smaller, not to mention ruthless.
ReplyDeleteReg,
ReplyDeleteI love Fossum, Hoeg, & Larsson. Have read all their available works. What should I pick up in the meantime?

Well, you could always try Henning Mankell's Faceless Killers, Sidetracked, and The Fifth Woman. They move right along but the bodies pile up in increasingly grisly ways...
ReplyDeleteI just read an interview to Eva Gabrielsson in which she says the niece has nothing to do with the crestion of Salander.
ReplyDeleteBut the statement that really shocked is this one: "...Prefieren poder seguir manipulando la historia y los personajes, como han hecho en la traducción inglesa, llena de alteraciones, y que el traductor original no quiso ni firmar con su nombre". I translate (sorry, I'll do my best). "(Larsson's father and brother) prefer to continue manipulating the story and the characters as they did in the English translation, full of distortions, and which the original translator didn't even want to sign with his name."
Can you comment that, please?
